What is Rain International?

Rain International is an MLM or Multi-Level Marketing company that sells a range of health and wellness products, specifically seed-based products.  These seed-based products are said to improve the overall health of the user.

The company was founded by Byron Belka, an entrepreneur businessman, back in 2011.  It’s based in Utah, USA.  There isn’t very much information known about Belka, but he does appear to have a lot of experience in the world of MLM.

He’s also been involved in several other MLM companies within the health and wellness niche, including Nu Skin.

You can learn a little more about the company with this 1-minute video…

Now, you should know that this is just a marketing video.

So, you might still be wondering…

Is Rain International a Pyramid Scheme

No, Rain International isn’t a pyramid scheme.

Their members are able to earn money from promoting their products without having the need to recruit anyone.

But as with most MLMs, recruitment tends to be the only way of earning a decent income, so a better questions would be… Is Rain International a Pyramid Scheme in Disguise?

What’s a Pyramid Scheme?

A pyramid scheme is a company that promises you payment in return for recruiting new members only.  They typically have no (real) products or services for you to offer, so recruitment is your only option.  Due to a model based solely on recruitment alone isn’t sustainable, most countries have classed them as illegal.

This diagram from Wikipedia shows you why if everyone had to recruit 6 people for the model to remain in action, why it’s impossible to do that…

pyramid scheme

It’s important to note, though, that there are a few members who make money.

But they do nothing but just recruit people and advertise the business opportunity they always talk about even if there’s really no such thing as a business opportunity here.

Also, looking at the diagram above lets you see that it’s impossible for the members to make money because they are just going to lose potential recruits in the future.

Here’s a 5-minute video that will help you spot these pyramid schemes in disguise…

Success is Rare at Rain International

Success is rare at any MLM company, and not just Kyani.

Did you know that between 72.5% and 99% of MLM members are losing money?

The main reason for this is that MLMs price their products really high when compared to retail products.  Then they task their distributors with a monthly sales quota to remain active.

Active means that you are eligible for commissions, so you want to stay active.  But that means that if you aren’t able to sell enough products, you have to buy them yourself.

So, if the monthly sales quota is $100 a month.  Typically as a new member you will be paying $100 a month, until you start making sales.

How Does Rain International Work?

Rain International is an MLM that sells a range of seed-based health and wellness products.

They also offer the chance for everyday people to work from home and earn money by selling these products.

It sounds like a good deal, but the company gets the bigger benefit by not having to spend millions of dollars on advertising.

Instead, the hard job of marketing these products is left down to their members.

Rain International Product Line

Before considering any MLM, it’s a good idea to take a look at the product line.  You need to know about their products, so that you can have a hope of selling them.

Their product line is spread across 7 categories, which are:

  1. Anti-inflammatory
  2. Greens
  3. Joints
  4. Skin care
  5. Protein
  6. Digestive Health
  7. Skin Red

Here are their best-selling products…

  • Bend ($90)– A nutritional supplement that helps improve the muscular and skeletal system, strengthening bones, muscles, and making you more flexible. It also gets rid of muscle and body pains.
  • Revri ($170)– A supplement that improves your skin health. It lightens your skin tone, smooths out wrinkles, and makes you look younger.
  • Pure ($78)– A health supplement that improves the immune system, making you less prone to illnesses. It also boosts your energy and improves your digestive system.

These products might seem interesting and special, but the reality is that there are many health and wellness MLMs that all offer similar products.  Like:

They all claim to be special and unique, to try and stand out from the crowd.  When the reality is that they all offer the same, or very simliar products.

Is there anything that does make Rain International stand out?

Rain International Flagship Product – Soul Red ($65)

This is a health supplement that improves body metabolism, reduces inflammation, and boosts energy levels.  It also contains seed-based natural ingredients that help you lose weight, recover faster, and be more energetic and active.

Here’s a 1-minute video to help you understand one of their best-selling products…

Haven't Made Your First $1 Yet?

Studies have shown that more than 70% of the people who want to make money online have not made their first dollar yet. So, you’re not alone!

Can You Make Money with Rain International?

It is possible for you to make money here, but it’s not as easy or as simple as they make out.

The very few who do make money will be those that act like full-time sales managers, all to earn a wage that is comparable to the minimum wage.

Rain International doesn’t publish an income disclosure statement, so it’s hard to know if anyone is actually making any money, other than the company.

How To Make Money with Rain International?

Let’s now get into what you are probably wondering most about… How to make money with Rain International.

Rain International is your typical MLM company, and that brings with it the usual two ways for you to make money here:

  1. Sell their products in return for a commission
  2. Recruiting people into your downline team and earning bonuses from the sales they make

Please note, you don’t actually make money for recruiting people.  That would make it a pyramid scheme.  Instead, you only earn bonuses from the sales your team makes, therefore picking and training the right people is important.

Getting Started with Rain International

To get started with Rain International, you first need to pay the subscription fee, which is $40.

Then you need to purchase one of their business kits, which varies between $105 and a huge $1,320!

But that isn’t where the costs stop…

Rain International Monthly Costs

Like most MLMs, yo have a monthly sales quota that you need to achieve to remain active, and therefore eligible for commissions.

With Rain International, you need to achieve 135PV each month to remain active.  That works out to about $200 worth of product each month.

Here’s the costs that you need to consider for the first year at Rain International…

  • $40
  • $105 to $1,320
  • $200 x 12 ($2,400)

Minimum Costs for First Year = $2,545 – $3,760

And that is before you consider any additional expenses that come with a business opportunity like this.  Like training, marketing, travel, fuel, etc.

P.S. This program enabled us to Create a 4-Figure Monthly Passive Income Stream.  It’s Free to get started and costs only $49/month to go full-time!

Rain International Compensation Plan

MLM companies seem to think that the more complicated they make the compensation plan, the better.  Seriously, Rain’s compensation plan is no different.  To read it fully and understand it, it takes a 24-page PDF… If you don’t believe me, take a look and read it here.

Or you can check out the video below.

If you prefer, I have written a summary of their compensation plan here:

Retail Commissions

Most MLM companies will let you promote their products and you can earn a commission on every sale.  But not at Rain, it works a different way.

You will need to buy their products in bulk and then sell them to customers at your own price.

This is what I would call a risky move, as you could end up losing your money and being stuck with a load of stock if you cannot shift it.  I am guessing it will have a limited shelf life too, as it is organic products.  Definitely something to factor in as well is where are you going to store your stock.

I wouldn’t recommend this method, personally.

Preferred Customers

If you can convince a customer to order on a regular basis, you could earn money from making a customer a preferred customer.  This is where they become a monthly buyer.  Rain will auto-ship to this customer each month and you can receive a $10 commission for every $40 that customer spends.

Affiliate Rank

AS you sell more products and recruit more people to become a direct seller, you will start to rise in the ranks.  There are a number of ranks starting from the bottom and as you climb you will receive more perks.

The different ranks are:

  1. Associate
  2. Rain Associate
  3. Manager
  4. Senior Manager
  5. Bronze Executive
  6. Silver Executive
  7. Gold Executive
  8. Platinum Elite
  9. Pearl Elite
  10. Sapphire Elite
  11. Diamond Elite
  12. Black Rain Diamond

Like we said, there are more incentives and perks as you climb the ladder but know that you will never climb high enough solely based on how many units you can shift on your own.  You will need to be able to recruit others into selling and joining your downline to make it worthwhile.

First Order Bonus

When you are able to recruit someone into the system, you will receive a commission that will depend on how much they spent.  Typically, this would be between $30-$90 per recruit.

Residual Commissions

This is where, if you can get it right will earn most of your money.  It is also the part that closely resembles the pyramid scheme.

The commission structure is binary and will look like the following:

How much money you can earn will depend on your legs group volume and your rank.  If your leg sells more and you have a higher rank, you will earn more.

Is Rain International a Scam?

No, Rain International is not a scam.   They have a legitimate product line and they also pay their members on time like they claim to.

But the problem is that members soon realise how difficult it is to make money with this type of opportunity, and then they realise they are actually losing money and not earning money.

This leads to them leaving and claiming Rain International is a scam.

The remainder of our Rain International review will help you get all of the other details you need to know so that you can make an informed decision.

Just to be completely transparent with you, I’m not a distributor of Rain International, nor do I endorse Rain International in any way.  I have researched the website, testimonials, and information available on the internet to get the details about what this program genuinely does.    I do this, as I have been caught out by a scam in the past, and am trying to help others avoid a similar fate…

What We Liked About Rain International

Here’s what we liked about Rain International:

#1 Positive Product Reviews

One thing you can say is that their products do get a good rating, and positive reviews from customers.

rain-international-positive-product-reviews

They rank an average of 4.5/5 and from reading some of the reviews, you can definitely see that people are benefiting from the use of their products.

It’s a good sign, when the products are effective.  Imagine trying to sell ineffective products that don’t work…

What We Didn't Like About Rain International

Here’s what we didn’t like about Rain International:

#1 Expensive Products

Rain International products might be effective, but they are still really overpriced when compared to many other similar products online.

Trying to sell expensive products is really hard, especially when they can go on places like Amazon and see highly rated products that achieve the same thing, and are half the price.

#2 Lacks Transparency

When an MLM doesn’t publish an income disclosure statement, it usually means that they are hiding something from you.

This is either:

  • The business opportunity is clearly not profitable and they don’t want you to see straightaway that you’ll be losing money, Or
  • The only way to make decent money is to recruit heavily, and I mean loads of recruitment

But the bottom line is that across the MLM industry 99% of members are typical losing money, and without an income disclosure statement, there is no evidence that it is any different at Rain International.

#3 Health & Wellness is a Saturated Market

There are so many companies, and not just MLM companies, that are in the health and wellness niche.

There are many MLMs all selling overpriced products that are practically the same product.  But then you have many retail products that are often better and cheaper.

So, why is anyone going to want to pay over the odds for the products you’ll be promoting at Rain International?

#4 Hidden Monthly Expenses

You need to sell 200 PV monthly for you to be active and be eligible to receive their commissions.

This means you must sell $200 worth of Rain International products every single month.

What happens if you can’t?  Well, you’ll ned to buy $200 worth of product each month.

Something that MLM companies don’t want you to know is that their own distributors are their biggest customer group.

By getting members to keep on recruiting, they gain a steady stream of obligated customers who keep on buying in the hope that it leads to something big.  Even if they can’t!

#5 Is Rain International a Pyramid Scheme in Disguise?

The only way you have of avoiding having to spend $200 on products each month is to start recruiting.  Which pushes that burden onto them (which isn’t exactly ethical). And when we mean start recruiting, we mean recruit as many people as you can.

But what happens is the structure of the company starts to look like this…

pyramid-scheme-graphic

Which clearly looks like a pyramid scheme, or a pyramid scheme in disguise.

Haven't Made Your First $1 Yet?

Studies have shown that more than 70% of the people who want to make money online have not made their first dollar yet. So, you’re not alone!

My Rain International Review - Final Conclusion

Rain International is a legitimate MLM that sells effective health and wellness products.  But the problem is that those products are just overpriced for the market.

When you then consider the business opportunity, and it naturally leads you to having to recruit heavily to avoid having to buy $200 worth of product each month.

But the evidence clearly points to most of their members are losing money, and the company doesn’t care as they have guaranteed customers.

In short, we wouldn’t recommend this to you…  there are much better opportunities to make money out there…

I’m not a fan of MLM, not because it’s illegal or not profitable, but because of all the restrictions and expensive costs involved.

  1. Rain international review, thank you for doing this review, it was very thorough and interesting. MLM is a tough way to make regular money and this company are no different to other MLM companies, however they have been around for 10 years which must mean that their products are good, their compensation plan is such that it encourages people to recruit and sell retail. Have you used their products?  I believe that it would be tough for someone to make a large amount of money from RIn International products unless they had used the products themselves and they were full of self belief and would stop at nothing to make it work. I like your alternative of making money at affiliate marketing, far less risk and the training at WA is second to none.

    • Hey Fintan,

thanks for checking out our blog and for writing some comments.

MLM is tough and unless you are a fantastic sales person, it will be probably impossible.  I personally haven’t checked out their products as I was more interested in the money making opportunity.  But I agree, you would need to fully understand their products to be able to effectively sell them.

Affiliate Marketing is a much better option, as there is less risk involved and you don’t need to be pushy

      thanks

  2. Interesting review you have up here about rain international. I’m glad I got a review about them that could clear my doubt on whether they are a scam or not. I got to know about rain international from a colleague at work and I got really skeptical about them and decided to research on them. My experiences with MLM businesses has been disastrous. And I don’t even think I want to invest my money in any kind of MLM business and besides, their plan is kind of costly considering my budget for the moment.  Thanks for the review

You need to be able to market the heck out of something to make MLM work and we are not all sales people.  I personally wouldn’t touch MLM…

  3. This is a very interesting and honest appraisal and expose of Rain International, clearly a MLM set up, which I should admit to having always disliked as I think they can cost you money without you making any, yes I have been burnt.

It is honest in the way that it details how this particular set up works, always think that a company that has been around for ten years, must have some honesty about it, or not be a total scam, it is just MLM.

  4. Hi John,

You have certainly done a lot of work finding out all the pros and cons of Rain International. It does sound fishy that they don’t disclose what they are worth as a company.

I have been involved in Direct Sales which is not at all a Multi-Level Marketing company. As it was a local cosmetic company and we had direct contact with the owner and his family, it made it easier to see if this was legit or not.

It was enormous fun at that time of my life, and I still purchase the products as they are very good.

I am very wary about joining MLM companies as I would feel very uncomfortable selling something I was not happy with to my friends and family.

    • Hey Jill,

thanks for checking out our blog and for writing some comments.  that is the worst part I think about MLM, the pressure to sell to friends and family.  It can be a hard-sell and can really harm relationships.

  5. Slowly but surely I have been keeping a record of dodgy schemes and poor opportunities. Luckily for me there are people like yourself who are able to bring these types of ‘setups’ to our attention. I have been ‘sucked in’ in the past in the hope of being able to create a sustainable business. Having confidence in the product helps then at least you can promote it. The problem is that we all start out selling to friends and family, they’re happy to ‘help’ you for an order or two but then the goodwill dries up. Where then do you get the additional sales needed to earn commision ? Testimonials work well for recruitment of ‘team’ members but if you can’t make a good case for the product yourself , how are you going to be able to convince someone else and ask them for a chunk of money to get the ball rolling. Definitely one to avoid.

I would hate to do that to friends and family, you are so right the good-will will only last so long.  It is also extremely hard if you do not believe in the product too.

  6. I’ve always hated MLMs… They are way too sleazy and salesy. I recently attended a Herbalife recruitment conference just for fun and I just couldn’t stand hearing them talk.

Someone approached me through FB for Rain International as well… Well, I don’t think I’ll join after reading your review… He was actually a pretty good salesman. I didn’t really understand that this was an MLM.

    Thanks a lot!

That is the problem, a great salesman can sell sand to the arabs… as the saying goes.  That is why you have to be so careful and do your research to understand fully what you are getting yourself into.

  7. Re: auto-ship

I’ve been to a lot of MLM opportunities and have spent more than a decade in that industry. When I was there, I tried to promote only the ones that are in good terms with the FTC, DSA, and other regulatory bodies so I will have the peace of mind that I’m not involved with a pyramid scheme. But, over the long run, I discovered that the supposed to be legit companies, if you are not careful with them, they will suck your money out through their auto-ship requirements. The more you get promoted in ranks, the more the demand for you to spend your own money to meet personal sales volume requirement, and that’s that ugly part of it.

Have you inquired how much exactly are they asking for their auto-ship in Rain International?

    Reply
    • Hey Gomer,

thanks for checking out our blog and for writing some comments.  They all tread the line to make sure most are legit, but that is typically because they offer a product.

I don’t think there is a limit on the auto-ship, but it is more about if you can get people to agree to pay up to have products shipped on a monthly basis.  Which is hard as unless you use loads of this stuff, why would you need it that regularly.
