Is Purium A Scam? Well, No One Is Making Any Money…

I’m going to take a guess and suggest that someone has just given you a $50 giftcard from a Purium distributor, to enjoy an immediate discount when you purchase products from Purium, and you’re now wondering if their business opportunity is any good?

Purium offers an opportunity for everyday people to lose some weight, and have a way of working from home.

What is Purium?

Purium is a health and wellness MLM or Multi-Level Marketing company that was founded by David Sandoval in 2004.  They specialise in weight loss programs.

They have a simple mission, which is

“We want to help you eat better, age more gracefully, and live longer”

Simply put, Purium is all about combatting the processed food pollution.  To understand the whole story, you can take a look at this animated video.  It explains to you about Sandoval’s 10-Day Transformation program…

There are many opinions about the amount of processed food people are eating, and the issues it causes.  They also claim it is one of the main reasons for causing health problems, like allergies, autism, obesity, diabetes, and even cancer.

To solve this, Sandoval, creating the 10-Day Transformation Plan, which is their flagship product.  We’ll cover this off later in the review…

Aside from their product line, they also offer an opportunity for everyday people the opportunity to work from home, become their own boss and sell these products to consumers.

They do also have a unique way to attract other people into the company, which uses $50 gift-cards.

You can learn a little more about this opportunity, and the business with this 3-minute video…

So, at this point Purium might be looking like a great opportunity, right?  Especially if someone has already given you a $50 gift-card.

But you’re clever enough to know that this is just a clever marketing sales video, designed to entice you in…

That means you might still be wondering…

Is Purium a Pyramid Scheme

No, Purium is not a pyramid scheme.  They have a legitimate product line and it’s possible for their distributors to make money just by selling Purium products, without the need to recruit other peopleinto the MLM opportunity.

This is the norm within MLMs.  But as the only ones who are making decent money are those that are recruiting, a much better question would be… Is Purium a pyramid scheme in disguise?

What’s a Pyramid Scheme?

A pyramid scheme is a company that promises payment in return for recruiting new members into the company, rather than for selling any products or services.

There are huge issues with them, and that is why most countries in the world have made them illegal.   A model that relies solely on recruitment is completely unsustainable, as the diagram from Wikipedia shows…

pyramid scheme

The majority of MLM companies do have a range of legitimate products or services.

But, some MLM’s use expensive products and sales quotas to hide that they only real way of members not losing money, is by recruiting more people.  These are what we call “pyramid schemes in disguise”.

We’ll go into a little more detail regarding Purium in the rest of our review.  But you can watch this 5-minute video which helps you spot these pyramid schemes in disguise…

Success is Rare at Purium

It isn’t just rare at Purium, it’s rare at any MLM company.

Did you know that between 72% and 99% of MLM members are losing money?

What I find odd is that they only provide an income disclousure statement from 2015.  That document shows that 98% of all Purium affiliates lost money in 2015, when you take into account their expenses.

But what is odd, is that they haven’t updated it since then.  Has it got better?  Or has it declined?  Either way, they are definitely trying to hide the truth from you…

From what we can read, success is going to be really hard and it will only be those that do a lot of recruiting that will earn enough to make it worthwhile (err, isn’t that a pyramid scheme in disguise?).

How Does Purium Work?

Purium produces a range of health and wellness products, mainly their weight-loss “transformation” programs.

They also offer an affiliate program, for every day people to join as a member and sell these products in return for commission.

It sounds like a good deal for both parties.  But the reality is that the company gets the benefit of not having to spend millions of dollars on advertising.

And the hard job of promoting these products, which are expensive by the way, to consumers.

Let’s take a look at their products now…

Purium Product Line

If you are serious about joining an MLM, then it’s a good idea to get your head around their product line.  You also might benefit from giving them a go, as you can then speak from first-hand experience.

Purium has products within the following categories:

Weight Loss – A series of shakes, supplements, and meal replacements, some of which are included in the 10-Day Transformation Program
Cleansing – Supplements designed to help our body get rid of wastes and toxins
• Performance – Shakes and supplements designed for athletes to enhance performance
Family – A line primarily composed of meals and products designed for children’s health
Rejuvenate – This line of products is designed to help repair and rejuvenate our different body parts, such as heart, joints, hair, skin, injury, etc.

You can take a look at their products list, here

Whilst these products might sound great, you should know that there are so many MLMs out there, all with a similar product line.  They all basically sell the same stuff.  Examples include:

So, now lets see if there is something that makes Purium stand out from the rest of the market?

Purium 10-Day Transformation Plan – Flagship Product

The 10-day Transformation Plan is what they have as their flagship product.  They claim that:

  • It’s the fast, healthiest, and simplest weight loss program on the planet
  • You can see results from Day 1
  • You can lose between 5 to 20 pounds of fat in just 10-days time
  • You can even build muscles without even exercising

Now, I’m not a pessimist, but those claims to seem to be a little too good to be true…

So, let’s take a look at how it really works…

  1. The very first thing you need to do is to take the Purium Power Shake which is loaded with nutrients
  2. 2 hours later, you’ll take the patented 100% vegan amino protein tablets. This is the thing that they claimed to help you build muscles without exercising.
  3. Without excess calories from processed foods, your body is forced to burn fat and according to them, this can help you release lots of chemicals & toxins stored in your fat. This is what they called the “Full body detox”.
  4. To get rid of the toxins completely, that’s why they’ve prepared a range of nutritional products within the package to flush the toxins out of your body.

It all sounds convincing, but there are a few issues with their transformation plan…

  1. This 10-day package costs $249 which is really expensive…
  2. The effects are subjective… Not everyone will see results like they claim
  3. Many people are unable to complete the 10-day plan due to reported side effects, the taste, and some other issues
  4. Most importantly, it isn’t backed by any clinical research

There are a myriad of online reviews, some are positive and some are negative.  But we’ll get into all that later…

Haven't Made Your First $1 Yet?

Studies have shown that more than 70% of the people who want to make money online have not made their first dollar yet. So, you’re not alone!

Can You Make Money with Purium?

Yes, you can make money with Purium, but it is going to be really hard.

Their income disclosure statement proves that 98% of their members are losing money, and those that are will be due to the amount of recruitment they have done, which passed the pain onto their downline members.

Selling expensive weight-loss programs will be a tough job, and probably why they give out gift-cards to try and make it more appealing…

How To Make Money with Purium?

Just like any other MLM company, there are 2 main ways for you to make money with Purium.  These are:

  1. Selling Purium products and earn retail commissions
  2. Recruiting people and building downline teams to earn various bonuses and commissions

Please note, they don’t actually pay you for recruiting people.  That would make it a pyramid scheme, instead they reward you with bonuses based on your downilne’s personal purchases and sales.

They also have a unique way of recruiting people, which we’ll explain the process shortly… Let’s first talk about how much it will cost you to get started here…

Getting Started with Purium

To join Purium as a distributor, you’ll be required to buy one of their enrolment packs.

Launch Pack $199-$500

The Launch pack includes:

  • Purium Bran Partner Starter kit (Essential marketing & training material
  • Online back office with mobile App
  • The Green Foods Bible (a book by David Sandoval)
  • Unlimited Gift Cards for 1 year

There are 3 pricing options for this launch pack

  1. The regular price of this pack is $199 if you don’t wan to purchase any products
  2. The price of this pack will drop to $99 if you buy $250 worth of product in one purchase (Total = $99 + $250 = $349)
  3. The Launch pack becomes FREE if you purchase $500 worth of products when you sign up.

This shows they are encouraging you to buy products from the very started

Basic Pack $49

Or, you can go with the basic pack with only consists of the electronic starter kit andno products.

But the costs don’t stop there…

Purium Monthly Costs

You are also obliged to hit the monthly sales quota of 50 PV each month to remain eligible for any commissions you earn.

50 PV is equal to about $65 worth of Purium product.

What happens if you’re unable to sell this amount of product?  Well you have to buy $65 worth of product yourself.

What many MLM companies don’t want you to know is that their own distributors are their biggest customer base.  Desperately buying products each month to stay active, so they can hopefully become their own boss.

Here’s the costs you are going to need to factor in to your first year with Purium…

  • $199-$500
  • $65 x 12 ($780)

Minimum Costs for Year 1 = $979 -$1,280

That is before you factor in any other expenses that go with a business venture like this, such as training, marketing, travel, etc.

P.S. This program enabled us to Create a 4-Figure Monthly Passive Income Stream.  It’s Free to get started and costs only $49/month to go full-time!

Purium Compensation Plan

MLM’s make their compensation plans really complicated, in the hope that you just think there are tons of ways to make money.  Technically there is still only two ways, selling or recruiting.

We’ll try and keep our explanation as simpl as we can…

There are 8 main ways you can earn money from their compensation plan:

  1. Retail Commission – you can earn between 15% to 45% commission off your retail sales, depending on your rank
  2. Unilevel Commission – a percentage commission based on your downline teams’ sales volume.  This commission is paid down to 8 levels deep (Recruitment based)
  3. Recruitment Commission – This is a commission earned when your referrals purchase their enrolment pack
  4. First Order Bonus – this is a commission earned when your referral or retail customers make their first order. (this is paid 4 levels deep)
  5. Infinity Bonus -Unilevel commissions stop at 8th level. But once you hit a certain rank and beyond, you can qualify for this infinity bonus which basically means that you can earn commissions down infinity levels deep. (Sounds appealing but extremely hard to achieve the rank)
  6. Matching Bonus – Once you hit the Diamond rank and above, and you managed to help your downlines achieve the Diamond rank as well, you’ll earn a Matching Bonus from what they earn to 4 levels deep
  7. Rank Achievement Bonus – this is an additional cash bonus paid to you when you achieve certain ranks
  8. Lifestyle Bonus – this is the highest-level bonus commission paid to the top leaders within the company, up to $10,000 bonus per month

Realistically, only a few of the commissions are relevant to most people as very few people can achieve the rank to qualify for those high-end commissions like Infinity Bonus, Matching Bonus and Lifestyle Bonus.

purium-compensation-plan-weekly-compensation

Don’t worry if all of that doesn’t make sense, that is the general idea.  All you need to know is that there are just two ways for you to make money:

  1. Sell Purium Products
  2. Recruit People

But did you notice that 7 out of the 8 ways all related to you recruiting people?

If you’d like to understand a bit more about their compensation plan, you can watch this 30-minute video below…

Or you can find the full 8 page Purium compensation plan here.

Is Purium a Scam?

No, Purium isn’t a scam.  They sell legitimate products and they pay their members on time, just like they say they do.

So, why do many call this out as a scam?  That’s mainly down to the fact that many members didn’t get all of the facts before they got started and end up losing hundreds, or even thousands of dollars trying to stay active before they even recruit their first member.

They end up walking away calling the whole premise a scam.

MLM is a tough business model, and it requires a certain skill set.  The rest of our Purium MLM review will help you get all of the details you need to make an informed decision about whether this business opportunity is right for you…

Just to be completely transparent with you, I’m not a distributor of Purium, nor do I endorse Purium in any way.  I have researched the website, testimonials, and information available on the internet to get the details about what this program genuinely does.    I do this, as I have been caught out by a scam in the past, and am trying to help others avoid a similar fate…

What We Liked About Purium

Here’s what we liked about Purium:

#1 Unique Recruitment Method

Purium uses a recruitment method, which is called the “Gift Card Marketing System”.

It works like this…

1. Members purchase these $50 gift cards (Distributors can get 1 year of unlimited gift cards if they sign up for the Launch Pack when they join)
2. They give them out to their friends, family members or anyone interested
3. When these people purchase a minimum $75 worth of Purium products, they can redeem this $50 gift card to get a discount.
4. At the same time, distributors who gave them the gift cards will earn a commission from the order

purium-gift-card-image

It’s definitely a different take on the traditional recruitment methods of MLM, like hosting parties or face-to-face sales.

#2 Proven History

Most MLM’s don’t make it past 5 years, and 1 in 3 don’t even make it past the ten year mark.  So, As Purium has been around since 2004, it’s a great sign that they are not going to disappear over night.

It also shows they are not a scam.

#3 Positive Product Reviews

There does seem to be a mixed view about their products, but the general consensus is positive…

purium-amazon-review-rating

My only concern about these reviews, is that these are the most recent reviews…  This definitely shows there is not as much interest in the products as there used to be…

#4 60-Day Unconditional Money-Back Guarantee

Purium offers a 60-day refund period on all of their products, except for the business builder packs.

So, if you really want to try out their 10-day Transformation Plan, you’re backed up by their 60-day refund policy

What We Didn't Like About Purium

Here’s what we didn’t like about Purium:

#1 Overpriced Products

There are a couple of examples here, where we can see that the products are really expensive…

Their Super Amino product is $75 for a 30-day supply.

Yet there is an alternative product online that is the same product, and is priced at only $19.99.

With the price differeny, you would expect there would be a huge difference in quality, but that is not the case.

Then there is their 10-day Transformation plan. It costs $249 for a package that last 10 days.

The biggest issue here, is that the results aren’t even guaranteed.  It totally depends on how your body reacts to the products.

there are no clinical research to back up their claims, and so it might not even work.

If it works, you may feel $249 is worth it.  But if it doesn’t , your customers will be using that great refund policy.  meaning you lose the sale and any commissions tied to it.

#2 Side Effects

There are many reports of people who have also experienced side effects, like nausea, bloating, diarrhoea, high blood pressure, headaches, tiredness, and allergic reactions.

There are also those that complain about the taste of the products.

Once again, the effectiveness of the product really varies and it depend on a lot of factors.

#3 Hidden Monthly Expenses

Our first concern was the overpriced products, and when you put that together with a monthly sales quota, the red flags start leading towards it being a pyramid scheme in disguise…

purium-monthly-personal-volume

MLM members endlessly buy products each month just to remain active, as they soon realise how hard it is to sell these products to people.

The only way to escape this is to recruit people, who then have to keep on buying products chasing the same dream as you…  That isn’t particularly ethical…

It is also a sign that…

#4 Is Purium a Pyramid Scheme in Disguise?

The reality is this…  The only way MLM distributors can avoid racking up uncontrollable credit card debt and finding somewhere to store all of the Purium products you have, is to recruit people.

That way, the pressure moves onto them…  It is a little sly, as Purium employs those gift-cards, so it makes it look like a good deal…

But the reality, this is what the business starts to look like…

pyramid-scheme

All of the signs are there, that Purium could be a pyramid scheme in disguise.  Signs like…

  • 7 out of 8 ways for you to be paid all relate to recruiting people
  • The only way to avoid buying $65 worth of product each month is to recruit a big enough team and pass that task onto them…
  • The only way you can make any residual income is through recruiting people

The products are legit, and you can technically make money without recruiting.  But the reality is that recruitment is the main goal here…  ergo, a pyramid scheme in disguise…

#4 Really Low Income Potential

This is the really importatn stuff you need to know…

Is anyone making any money here?

purium-income-disclosure-statement

Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit. Ut elit tellus, luctus nec ullamcorper mattis, pulvinar dapibus leo.

The latest income disclosure statement is from 2015, we couldn’t find an updated version.  Which is a red flag in its self.

But as you can see, more than 99% of all distributors has an average annual income of less than $2,400.  That’s less than $200 a month.

But that is only for a very small group of people.

77% of members earned an average of $5.79 for the year.

According to the same report, the average annual income for all distributors in 2015, was ust $300.54!!

Only 1 in 400 Purium members make over $15K a year.

Are you really going to be committed enough to work at selling these overpriced products long enough until you “build a team to do the work for you”? (that never really happens in most MLMs as most people you recruit won’t make a penny!)

Yes, it’s true that there are still people getting rich with Purium.  A very small number.

But most MLMs are the same. That only represents an extremely small group of people.

Majority of the people who join such MLMs failed!

Haven't Made Your First $1 Yet?

Studies have shown that more than 70% of the people who want to make money online have not made their first dollar yet. So, you’re not alone!

My Purium Review - Final Conclusion

As far as their products go, they offer a legitimate product line and their transformation plan does seem unique.

But when it comes to their business opportunity, we wouldn’t recommend it to anyone.  They do have a unique pull, with the gift-cards.

But there is just so many red flags, that too many members are losing money and not making a decent income.  the fact their income disclosure statement is from 6 years ago, is also a sign that they don’t want to show you updated figures, as it would be more worrying that the stuff we can see.

Most members here will be losing money before they are even able to recruit someone, who will in turn, start losing money.  In my head, that isn’t an ethical business model…

How We Make Money Online

I’m not a fan of MLM, not because it’s illegal or not profitable, but because of all the restrictions and expensive costs involved.

Instead, Affiliate Marketing is our top recommended business model for anyone looking to make money online

The reasons are simple…

  • You can promote anything you want and aren’t restricted to only promote products from one MLM company
  • You don’t have to recruit anyone to make money
  • You never need to sell to your friends and family
  • It’s free to get started

In fact, with affiliate marketing we’ve been able to Create a 4-Figure Monthly Passive Income Stream.  If you want to learn more, click here.
