Summary:  Kannaway is a Hemp-based MLM company.  Their products receive many positive reviews.  But the business opportunity relies on really expensive products, a focus on recruiting that could label them a pyramid scheme in disguise and an income potential that is really low.

Add to that the decline in interest in Kannaway and their products shows that this will be an uphill struggle to make a business out of this.

What is Kannaway?

Kannaway is an MLM or Multi-Level Marketing company that sells a range of “hemp-infused” products, such as CBD Oil.

It was founded in 2014 by Christopher Hussey, who is the current CTO, and Jeff Rogers, who is the company CEO.

Rogers and Hussey wanted to bring something different and unique to the MLM world.  Something that had been done before, and Kannaway is the result.

Their vision was to provide all the “controversial benefits” of the cannabis plant in a safe and legal way.

The company focuses on everything to do with Hemp or manufacturing hemp oil.

what is kannaway mlm - website

Hemp is also refined into a range of different products, such as wax, rope, cloth, and fuel.  There are many beneficial uses, but the thing is, there is still controversy that surrounds it due to its relationship with cannabis.

It can be easy to assume that Hemp is cannabis or vice versa, but the fact is there is a distinct difference.

THC or Tetrahydrocannabinol is the compound that gives people the high from smoking cannabis.  Typically, Marijuana will have 20%+ THC.  But Hemp has like 0.3%.

So, pretty much Hemp has no THC really.  Instead of that, it has CBD or Cannabidiol.

CBD accounts for 40% of the plant’s extract and can be taking into the body in many different ways.

The key difference between THC & CBD is that CBD has no intoxicating effects that THC has.

Basically, CBD doesn’t make you high or disorient you.

Since the legalisation of cannabis for medical and recreational use in Canada and is becoming legal in many US states, Hemp is becoming more popular and well known.

There is still a bit of stigma though, as cannabis is from the same plant.

Kannaway is a company that is offering a range of products and a business opportunity for you to join as a distributor and sell these products to make money.  Is it a good business opportunity, let’s keep going to find out?

If you want to know a little more about the company, you can check this 1-minute video below…

Sounds like a great opportunity, right?

But you’re smart enough to know that this is just a marketing video, so you might still be asking…

Is Kannaway a Pyramid Scheme

The question often comes around when you are discussing an MLM, is it a Pyramid Scheme?

Many MLM’s often get labelled (incorrectly) as a Pyramid scheme, but they are not.

The problem comes around when you start discussing their compensation plans, especially the recruitment side.

But in short, Kannaway is not a pyramid scheme.  The easy way to a legit MLM against a Pyramid Scheme is to look at whether recruitment is the only option to make money or not.

Kannaway has a legitimate product line which you can sell and make money from.  You can recruit, but as we have just mentioned, they compensate you on the products they sell and not just recruiting others.

A Pyramid Scheme offers you only the option of making money from recruiting and has no legitimate product line to speak of.

They’ve been made illegal in most countries as it’s impossible for everyone to make money, making them unsustainable.  As this diagram from Wikipedia shows…

pyramid scheme

In my opinion, Kannaway is definitely more focused on selling their products rather than recruitment, especially as you only earn if your recruits sell.

Having said that, we cannot get away from the fact that Success is Rare at MLM’s…

Success is Rare at Kannaway

MLM’s do not have a great success rate, especially for those who are not experienced with sales and recruitment environments.  Did you know that research has proven that between 73% and 99.9% of all MLM representatives lose money?

There are many reasons for this and not every MLM is equal.

You have to factor in that many MLM companies sell expensive products and force their distributors to keep buying these products each month to stay “qualified”.

There is also the fact that they rely on out-dated marketing methods.  Think about this Coronavirus situation.  More and more people are shopping online to buy products.  Why would they want to buy from you, when they get it cheaper elsewhere?

It is a tough job being an MLM distributor, you need to hit sales quotas and you will end up buying a lot more than you can sell in the early days.

Kannaway Product Line

Kannaway offers a very in-depth product line.  They all have the main ingredient of Hemp and its component CBD.

Their product line ranges from oils (very different to the essential oils that Young Living sells) to energy chews and even backpacks, etc.

Some of the more popular products include:

  1. Premium Hemp Oil Caps
  2. Premium Hemp Oil Oral Applicator
  3. Pure CBD Premium Capsules
  4. Kannaway Pure CBD
  5. Kannaway Chocolate Energy Chews
  6. Kannaway Salve Travel
  7. Kannaway Salve

These are the categories and guide prices too:

  • CBD products- liquids, capsules, salve, vape- $40-$511
  • Nutrition- protein, supplements – $59-$79
  • Skin care- salve, cleanser, mask – $40-$54
  • Essential oils- $43.19
  • Lifestyle- bag, scarf, beenie, T-shirt – $10-$45
  • Hempy’s- Backpack, leggings, socks etc. – $14-$63
  • Echo- charity donation- connecting sick children and families with CBD – $5-$100
  • Business tools- Magazine, gift cards, different nationalities info pack – $6-$50

Kannaway Starter Pack

As with most MLM companies, Kannaway has a starter pack that you can buy to “kick-start” your business. This will cost you $262.50!

For your money you will be getting:

  1. Chocolate Energy Chews
  2. Premium Full Spectrum Caps
  3. Rev!ve AM
  4. Rev!ve PM 500mg

You can read their full product line list by visiting their website.  It is important to remind you at this point it is perfectly legal to purchase Kannaway’s products in all 50 states of the USA and Canada.  If you are not from those countries, it might be a good thing for you to check this list of countries where hemp production is legal.

Does the Product Work?

Before we explore the Kannaway products, it is first good to have a look at what the experts say about the benefits of using CBD Oil is.

Healthline shows the following:

  • The ability to relieve pain (although most studies show that cannabis with THC works best for diseases such as multiple sclerosis and arthritis)
  • Reduce anxiety
  • May alleviate cancer symptoms (studies are still ongoing with this one though to assess how effective and safe it is)
  • Can reduce acne
  • Neuroprotective properties (said to ease epilepsy and Parkinson’s symptoms)

But then there are also a few side effects that are said to go with it, these include:

  • Diarrhoea
  • Changes in appetite and weight
  • Fatigue

Research is still not conclusive in any of these findings, but there does seem to be benefits that can be had from CBD Oil.

So, where does the Kannaway products fall into this?

The problem is, it is hard to find reviews for Kannaway as people are not too forward about putting their details about using Hemp-Infused products online as there is still the stigma associated with Hemp/Cannabis.

But there are reviews on a site called CBD Oil Reviews. Here is one:

Kannaway positive feedback

This is the most recent review about Kannaway.  They have said they definitely noticed a difference and recommended CBD, although not necessarily with Kannaway.

There is a good mix when going through the 40 reviews on this site for Kannaway.  Some saying the products worked great and others where they are saying the products didn’t do anything for them.

But I think with anything, it is totally dependent on the user and their body.  Everyone can and will have a different effect.  It can also depend on the CBD content of the product.

Studies have shown that more than 70% of the people who want to make money online have not made their first dollar yet. So, you’re not alone!

How To Make Money with Kannaway?

Despite the fact they have a unique product line, Kannaway still has the same old MLM business model, just like Young Living or Youngevity, so it has the usual routes of being able to make money with them:

  1. Retail Commissions – Selling their products to the customers and earning retail commissions
  2. Recruitment Commissions – Recruit people into your downline

There is a slight difference with Kannaway though with regards to the recruitment side.  You do not earn money for recruiting people, you will earn commissions from the sales they make.

MLM’s do not spend a lot of money on marketing or advertising, they rely on the traditional ways of marketing, which are:

  1. Word of Mouth Marketing
  2. Social Media Marketing

That might have been the way that you found out about Kannaway in the first place?  Someone you know has discussed the idea with you, or you will have seen it via a Facebook share.

Getting Started with Kannaway

Kannaway calls their distributors Brand Ambassadors and it will cost you a $54.98 a year and then $29.99 monthly Brand Ambassador fee.

what is kannaway mlm - cost of joining

This will give you access to the following:

  1. Promotional Material
  2. Kannaway Marketing Website
  3. MLM Training
  4. Kannaway Media Marketing System
  5. Kannaway’s Secure Back Office
  6. Access to Kway University Training
  7. Success Manual & Quick Start Guides

What you don’t get included in this fee is any products for you to promote or sell.  This means your sponsor will push onto you one of the starter packs.

These packs range from $210 – $1,280.

These are not the only costs that you will need to factor in either.  There are monthly costs you will need to spend.

Kannaway MLM Monthly Costs

The second requirement is that you need to meet the monthly sales quota PV (Personal Volume).

what is kannaway mlm - brand ambassador PV

This is so you remain active and therefore eligible to earn commissions.  When you start this will be 28 PV per month, and this amount will increase as you increase your rank in the company.

1 PV equals around a $1, so you need to account for an extra $28 per month into your budget.

You have to remember that, in the beginning you will not be earning enough to offset this cost.  Too many people struggle with these costs when starting out.

It is as simple as this; you have to be selling more than you are spending.  But you have to keep spending even if you are not selling, so in a year you would have spent $336 on products, plus all your other costs.  But when the stats show that 73% of people lose money from MLM, you can see why.

It is not nearly as much as other MLM’s, but it all comes down to how many people you know that are interested in hemp-oil products and are they going to be interested in buying them from you?

P.S. This program enabled us to Create a 4-Figure Monthly Passive Income Stream.  It’s Free to get started and costs only $49/month to go full-time!

Kannaway Compensation Plan

Kannaway’s compensation plan is pretty straightforward.  How much you can earn will depend on how much you make on your own retail sales, and the number of recruits you get into your downline and the sales they make.

But, unlike other MLM’s you are not rewarded directly for recruiting people.  You will only earn money on the sales that your recruits make.  This means there is a focus on recruitment, but not as much of an emphasis as others.  It all comes down to the fact that they want you to be selling the products.

Kannaway compensation plan - snippet

The Kannaway compensation plan follows a unilevel structure, so the higher the rank is, the more commissions you earn.

I won’t get into too much detail, but here are the key points you need to know on how you can earn from their business opportunity.

  1. Direct Sales Bonus – The Brand Ambassador gets a 30% commission on purchases from their downline for selling or for personal use
  2. Triple Direct Sales Bonus – Brand Ambassadors earn direct sales commissions paid on all Kannaway Value Packs at triple the rate
  3. 50% DSB Check Match – Brand Ambassadors get paid this matching bonus on all direct sales bonuses, and is paid out to the entire team

If you want to know more details about their compensation plan, watch this video:

Is Kannaway a Scam?

No, Kannaway isnt a scam.  They have a legit product line and they also pay their members on time like they say they do.

So, why do most MLM’s get labelled a scam then?

Well, that is mainly down to people not having all of the information before they jump in with both feet.  They soon find out that they have to pay monthly to stay active, end up with tons of stock at home with no one to sell it too.

They end up losing money and walk away calling the whole thing a scam.

The remainder of our Kannaway review will help you get all of the other information you need to make an informed decision about whether this opportunity is right for you…

Just to be completely transparent with you, I’m not a distributor of Kannaway, nor do I endorse Kannaway in any way.  I have researched the website, testimonials, and information available on the internet to get the details about what this program genuinely does.    I do this, as I have been caught out by a scam in the past, and am trying to help others avoid a similar fate…

What We Liked About Kannaway

Here is what we liked about Kannaway:

#1 Kannaway Products Receive Positive Reviews

There is no denying that these types of product are being well-received by those who use them for medical conditions.  The same can be said for Kannaway products.  I refer back to that positive review I showed you earlier, from Sara:

Kannaway positive feedback

Here’s another example…

So, the products get a good shout- out.  But, you have to remember that doesn’t always make for a good business opportunity.

#2 Low Start-Up Costs

Getting started is relatively low, when you consider it against other MLM’s.  If you don’t buy any of the starter packs, you will only need to spend $54.98.

what is kannaway mlm - cost of joining

But in reality, if this is your first business venture.  You will not make a penny by only spending that amount and without more education and support

What We Didn't Like About Kannaway

Here is what we didn’t like about Kannaway:

#1 Expensive Products

Their product line is expensive, it is also a way to figure out whether the program is operating as a pyramid scheme in disguise.

This is especially important to consider when there is a “sales quota” distributor have to meet each month.

I have often wondered why MLM companies price their products so high, when you compare them to others on the market.  Not many people would pay these prices, and yet their distributors are expected to meet the monthly sales quota.  You normally see that MLM sales are typically only really coming from their distributors and a select few who got in at the right time and have recruited good salespeople.

Check out the price comparisons between Kannaway products and Amazon products:

Kannaway is no different to so many other MLM’s, they are offering products over 150% more expensive than those on offer at Amazon.

That is what you are competing against.  Why are people on your social media going to buy products from you, instead of buying it from Amazon?

There are also examples where the main ingredients in Kannaway products are exactly the same as those included in other products, and yet Kannaway charges 27% more.

#2 It Has Signs of Being a Pyramid Scheme in Disguise

The fact that it has really high products and that distributors have to meet a monthly quota, means it does act a little like a Pyramid scheme.  Not an outright one, just like one.

As you start to go through the details, you start to realise that they are a little more focused on recruiting than you first realise.

Here are some of the signs that Kannaway is recruitment focused and the only way ambassadors make good money is by recruiting (and not selling the products):

  • 8 out of the 11 ways to get paid involves recruiting
  • The “deeper your downline” the better your commission – encouraging you to focus on recruitment
  • You need to recruit quickly to receive any fast track bonuses
Kannaway Recruitment Structure

The whole compensation plan is totally recruitment focused.

Kannaway recruitment focus

#3 Very Low-Income Potential

Your earnings are based on your ability to sell these expensive products to others and cover your costs.  You are getting 30% of product commission, but you still need to sell a lot of them to make it worth your while.

30% of $200 is $60, but that is based on your selling one of the kits.  The problem with MLM is typically how long it takes you to make a sale and how frequently do you manage to make those sales.

You would need to sell one of those kits every day, just to equal the US Federal minimum wage.

How realistic is that?  In my experience, a lot more difficult that you may first realise.

We haven’t found evidence of an income disclosure statement to prove us wrong, but in our experience, that is not going to be the same at Kannaway.

P.S. This program has helped us achieve a 4-Figure Passive Monthly Income and only costs $49/month to go full-time

#4 Lack of Control

A business with Kannaway will not really have you owning your own business.  You will be totally reliant on a number of factors, these include:

  • You will be reliant on the people you recruit (and who recruited you)
  • You have no say over your website (it is a replicated site and you won’t be able to get free traffic to it from Google)
  • You have no control over the product prices or what happens to them
  • Kannaway can suspend you at any time, without giving you a reason – this is typically not achieving the sales quota or spending your PV

If the MLM decides to remove you, you will lose all the money and time you have invested.

#5 Poor Support & Complaints

Kannaway’s product line receives positive feedback online, but the same cannot be said for their business opportunity and their customer service.

There were many complaints about their customer service, like this one for example:

Kannaway complaint - customer service
Kannaway complaint 2 - customer service

But some of the more concerning comments are about it ruining relationships with friends and family.  See this one:

Kannaway complaints 3 - ruining relationships

In my experience, this is one of the main reasons why distributors quit MLM.  IN fact, 65% of people quit an MLM because they feel it is awkward selling to friends and family.

Either way, it shows that whilst they products may be good, it is not a great business and the business opportunity is going to have many hurdles for you to overcome.

#6 Signs That Kannaway is Losing Popularity

CBD Oil is getting a lot of interest lately, especially as the legalisation of marijuana is making these products available.  They are even sold by Amazon.

But when you check out how many people are searching for Kannaway on Google, the results are showing a decline.

kannaway vs farmasi comparison

It has already seen its initial “boom” that all MLM companies go through in the early days and that was back in 2014.  But since 2018, the searches are slowly declining each month.

When you compare it to another similar MLM, Farmasi, you can see that Kannaway is not the option you should really be considering…

Haven't Made Your First $1 Yet?

Studies have shown that more than 70% of the people who want to make money online have not made their first dollar yet. So, you’re not alone!

My Kannaway Review - Final Conclusion

I don’t believe Kannaway is a scam.  They are a legitimate MLM company that is providing Hemp-infused products that are receiving many positive reviews.  There is some focus on recruitment, which could lead to some believing it to be a pyramid scheme.  But in all, it is a legitimate opportunity.  That doesn’t mean we would recommend this business opportunity though.

Their business opportunity has the normal difficulties that come with any MLM opportunity, but with the added difficulty of people still being unsure of CBD products.

The fact that you are going to be expected to sell really expensive products which are much higher than products you can find on Amazon, for example.

Add to that the income potential is just extremely low.  You will find it difficult to make a mark and earn enough to make it worthwhile.

How We Make Money Online

I’m not a fan of MLM, not because it’s illegal or not profitable, but because of all the restrictions and expensive costs involved.

Instead, Affiliate Marketing is our top recommended business model for anyone looking to make money online

The reasons are simple…

  • You can promote anything you want and aren’t restricted to only promote products from one MLM company
  • You don’t have to recruit anyone to make money
  • You never need to sell to your friends and family
  • It’s free to get started

In fact, with affiliate marketing we’ve been able to Create a 4-Figure Monthly Passive Income Stream.  If you want to learn more, click here.
