Can I Do Affiliate Marketing Without a Website?

Whilst I personally believe that having a website can have massive benefits to your business, there are definitely opportunities to explore Affiliate Marketing with a website.

Whichever route you take, it is important you know how to send targets to your vendors site and ensure they click on your links.

I use affiliate links to support, for more information click here.

Relevant & Helpful Content

You cannot get away from the fact that Helping People is a better route than Selling to People.  You need to engage the audience to ensure you get the opportunity to promote a product or service that you have an affiliate link with.

Have you ever landed on a page that is too salesy, doesn’t help you with your questions or is nothing to do with what you were searching –  then you know the importance of making any content you create, regardless of the medium is high-quality, relevant and helpful.

Whether you choose to explore affiliate marketing with social media, blogging or writing an eBook you need to ensure that you create helpful relevant content that engages the audience.

If you can keep those points in check, you will find that you can find ways to do affiliate marketing without a website.

Discussion Boards, Blogs & Forums

Online forums and communities could be a good place to start, search for ones that are in the niche you are planning on using.  Check their guidelines well, so you understand what posts they allow and what is not allowed.  You might find some do not allow affiliate links.

Once you have found one that is suitable for you, become a member and become an active member.  You need to build trust in any option you choose for affiliate marketing.  Why is anyone going to follow your leads if they do not trust you.

Once you are seen as an active member that helps people, you will find that they will be more inclined to follow your affiliate links.

Be active by interacting with other people, answering questions or offering solutions whilst integrating your affiliate links.

Writing eBooks

Writing eBooks - Affiliate MarketingAnother option you could explore is writing an eBook – this could work as both earning potential through selling an eBook and including your affiliate links in that eBook.

It is considered a harder option, as you need to be able to write an eBook, so firstly definitely pick a subject that you are really interested in and have some knowledge in.

You don’t need to write hundreds of eBooks to be successful, you will build a better option with a high-quality eBook that provides the reader with some insightful information that they want to download, and your affiliate link is the bonus.

Email Marketing

Email Campaigns are probably the best way for affiliate marketing whether you have a website or not. Writing an EmailEmail Marketing - Affiliate Marketing Marketing campaign works very much like writing articles on a blog.

The only difference between a blog and the email marketing route is that you are sending them directly to them.

It comes without saying, that first off you need to gain their email address to be able to send them useful posts.

You need to think of a great subject (makes them open the email), great content (makes them read it) and then you affiliate link.

Become a YouTuber

Youtube - Affiliate MarketingVideo is one of the best opportunities for people looking to earn money online. YouTube is actually a search engine and is second only to Google in searches.  All you need is a YouTube account and you can become an affiliate marketer.

You need to focus on creating useful and creative videos to promote your affiliate links. With YouTube, you can sell anything just as long as you include disclosure of your affiliate links.

When creating your videos, make sure they are related to the products or services that you are promoting.  You need to include a description of it and add links to the products that you are promoting.

Promote Through Social Media

There are multiple opportunities to promote affiliate marketing through social media, Facebook, Twitter and even Pinterest can offer you ways of getting your details to your audience.

Social Media - Affiliate MarketingBuilding up an audience will be key to getting your posts to as many people as you can. But the key is creating a post that grabs the attention of your audience.  Whenever you go on social media there is loads of stuff being promoted, but if it doesn’t grab their attention you will not convert your opportunity.

You also need to earn their trust through your posts – don’t just post affiliate links, create useful posts that lead to your affiliate links.

You also need to stay relevant to the niche you have chosen, you will be building your audience up around this niche, so posting irrelevant content will just put off your audience.

Images are also a key element of social media, people are more inclined to interact with an image rather than a text link.

Does Affiliate Marketing Work Better with a Website?

I understand there can be reservation of committing to a website, but there are a number of reasons why I believe having a website as the foundation for your affiliate marketing business will have longer standing benefits than not having one.

The problem I have with only using one of the options above is, if it doesn’t work or stops converting you are back to step one.

Forum – What happens if the forum you have, starts losing members or closes. People used to recommend Warrior Forum, but it definitely gets mixed responses now

Social Media – Social Media is useful for any online business, but don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. Google is about to close its social media platform Google+ due to it never really getting off the ground.  People have lost a bit of trust in Facebook due to the controversies lately.  Twitter is really popular, but again it can be hard to convert.

Writing an eBook – This is the one that probably works either way, as long as you can write one, this is the winner.

Email Marketing – Email Marketing is an awesome route for affiliate marketing, but you need to be able get the email addresses in the first place. I wouldn’t recommend buying them, as this will just lead to your emails being classed as spam.

Become a Youtuber – This is the one that is entirely possible without a website, there are many that have become YouTube stars through video marketing.  (In the UK) there is a YouTuber on Strictly Come Dancing at the moment.  With a million views, he is doing really well.

Why Do I Recommend a Website?

I am not against people who are successful utilising Affiliate Marketing without a website, but there is a bigger opportunity when it comes to owning your own website.  It becomes the foundation for all of your affiliate offers.  You can build your own brand around it and you can utilise all five of the opportunities above to bolster your affiliate offer.

All of the ways above could lead to your website.  Some forums and social media platforms can penalise you for affiliate links.  But if you are leading them to your website, there is no affiliate link until they land on your website.

I use social media to bring people to my blog, which is on my own website. I will introduce email marketing when I am ready, I could write an eBook about affiliate marketing and use that to lead them to my website or affiliate marketing opportunities.

One of the key things I started with was that your content needs to be relevant and helpful.  It also needs to encourage people to click on them and follow your affiliate links.

But many products or services out there in certain niches have poor sales pages that will put people off.  If they do not purchase the product, you don’t make any money.

But if your website has a great insightful post about the products and helps your reader make their mind up about purchasing the product/service – they are more likely to buy a product.

I understand you might not be ready to commit to having your own website, but if you are truly committed to making affiliate marketing your full-time income stream, building a brand around your website and utilising the five methods above to grow your brand will increase your earning potential.

Also, if one of the other methods isn’t working you just don’t continue with that method, but you haven’t got to start again you can just focus on the methods that works for you.

SO, Can I Do Affiliate Marketing Without a Website?

If you are determined to do Affiliate Marketing without a website, and you feel it is right for you – then any of the five options above are a great option for affiliate marketing.

Work hard on building trust with helpful content and you will find you have a better opportunity to earn money.

If you are ready to build up an online business with real earning potential, you will find you need a website at some point.

  1. Hi John

I found your post both interesting and informative.

You obviously have a real knowledge of all aspects of marketing, and your evaluation of the various methods of marketing is really helpful.

I would agree that although it is possible to do Affiliate Marketing without a website, it is infinitely preferable to have one, as it enables all those processes to come together in the same place.

Do you think that it is important to have the correct training in building and using a website, or is it possible to do that by yourself?

    Many thanks for your post

    Chrissie 🙂

    • Hey Chrissie,

thanks for checking out my post and leaving some comments.

Having a foundation for your business (website) will ultimately make the difference if you want to make Affiliate Marketing your full-time gig and not just a part time income.  You make a good point around the training.  I would be nowhere if I hadn’t learned everything I needed to know about an Affiliate Marketing business.

You could learn it through google search, but the best recommendation i can give is for someone to check out Wealthy Affiliate.  Their training, affiliate tools and support make the difference when wanting to make this a successful online business.

I found that with their training and guidance, I had an affiliate marketing business up and running in just a few weeks – Focusing on creating content and helping people with affiliate marketing.  Trying to learn everything by trial and error, would have ended up with me not believing this could work.

Getting the right training will have massive benefits to your online business.

  2. I’ve been blogging for quite a few number of years now, and I’ve never really thought about attempting affiliate marketing without a blog before – I wouldn’t have really known where to start!

I really like the idea of writing an eBook and doing your marketing through that angle – the opportunities are surely endless there.

But don’t most forums and message boards have a rule about affiliate links?

    • Hey Chris,

thanks for checking out my post and leaving some comments.

An eBook does sound like a good idea, and is something you could consider to compliment your business.

You are right about forums, you definitely need to check out their guidelines before signing up.  You will find that affiliate marketing does get seen differently by different forums, etc.  Even with email marketing you need to be careful, Mail-chimp will stop your campaigns if you include Affiliate Links.

Make sure you do your research before employing any strategy.

  3. Great article. I have asked myself this question so many times. From your discussion I agree that I can do affiliate marketing without a website, but it would be to my advantage to have a website administered and controlled by me. I feel that I could have the social media, the email marketing the blogs and e-books all linked to that one place that provides what i am marketing. Good points here. Now I know what I need to do. Thanks

    • Hey JJ,

thanks for checking out my post and leaving some comments.

That is my plan, I have a brand associated with my web domain.  I already utilise social media and am working on add email marketing and possibly an ebook.  There are plenty of opportunities associated with your own website.

I am glad you have gained some ideas from this post.

  4. A major advantage to having your own website is that there’s a much greater opportunity to reach your target audience. If they find your website while doing a search for your products, they’re probably at a much closer stage to buying than somebody on a forum or social media page.

    • Hey,

thanks for checking out my post and leaving some comments.  You have a great point, understanding the customer purchase lifecycle is key to knowing where they are on it.  Are they more likely to buy a product or not.

Having your own website allows you to build up content around your offers, aimed at the different stages.

      thanks for adding comments

  5. I would agree with your assessment, you can do affiliate marketing without a website. But having a website allows you to open up to many more opportunities. Youtube is probably my recommendation. There are plenty of people building amazing bases on Youtube without websites. Ultimately, they get one, but I would say, if there is a specific “How to”, youtube is probably your best bet.

I know in both of those formats, I would always say, build a website, even if you start out with an “about”. So many opportunities can come out of it. Thanks for the great post.

    • Hey JB,

thanks for checking out my post and leaving some comments.

YouTube is definitely a great option – although some are not that comfortable in front of the camera, there are other ways of doing it where you are not in front of the camera until you are ready.

  6. Wow this is actually quite informative to read. I never knew writing ebooks was a great way to go about affiliate marketing other than having a website or promoting through social media. Moreover just as you pointed out, having a website is a great way of making money online because you build your own brand from scratch which leads to more leads and steady income in the future.

Thanks for sharing Really appreciate it!!!

    • Hey,

thanks for checking out my post and leaving some comments.

Writing an ebook is a great idea, you need to make sure it is designed well to get people to download it, but it will definitely help with your affiliate marketing business.

  7. I was impressed with the amount of useful information on your website. Anyone that is looking for internet income can benefit with this site. Wealthy Affiliate is the best learning platform that I have found and believe me I have tried several. I am new to Wealthy Affiliate and I am not at all  computer savvy but I have all of the support and help from Kyle and Carson plus all of the Wealthy Affiliate community that makes it all come together.

    • Hey Carolyn,

thanks for checking out my post and leaving some comments.  Thanks for your feedback around my website, I am trying to help as many people as I can find genuine opportunities.

Wealthy Affiliate is a great training platform, but they offer so much more in support and awesome training.

  8. Hi John,

Your post is very educational and informative. I’ve never thought of doing affiliate marketing without having a website and I don’t think I would because having your website is more reliable. However, to get more traffic to my site as you said yourself, I would be implementing some of the approaches you discussed. I’ve learnt something from your post. Thanks

    • Hey,

thanks for checking out my post and leaving some comments.  I agree with you, having a website does give you a solid foundation – but it doesn’t mean we cannot try some other avenues.  Everyone needs traffic and these are some great opportunities to expand that.

  9. Hi there,

Thanks for putting together this article. You offer really useful ways in approaching affiliate marketing without having a website, although I completely agree with you that having a website has many advantages. Your out-of-the-box thinking has now given me many ideas to supplement my own website. I am already involved in social media and have started building an email subscription list, however the thought of joining forums or focusing on a youtube channel have not yet crossed my mind xD  I will be looking into these for sure.

I am fairly new at affiliate marketing and am also a member of Wealthy Affiliate. I want to take this opportunity to let any readers know that I believe this place is the real deal and one of the best platforms you can join if you wish to make a successful affiliate marketing website.

I have just scanned through your homepage and see there are a lot of helpful articles, thanks! Bookmarked for future reference!

    • Hey,

thanks for checking out my post and leaving some comments.

I am glad you found the article useful, to ensure you get the most out of affiliate marketing you sometimes need to explore all avenues.

  10. Blog as website and/or Website with blogs are being discussed with the former being greatly explained as is expected. I personally never thought it can really be one of the ways to promote product.

Affiliate marketing of product is about helping people with a great content (content is the king) which they would love to read, then they build trust and get influenced to get into your blog website. Customers come and come back again and your content will keep them hopefully for ever. So focusing on an high quality engaging content of high relevance is the key to your universe of being a successful affiliate marketer.

I like the five strategies of enhancing the marketing being a blog-website owner:

    1. Participating in your niche related forums

     2. Social media sharing following proper policies of the media face book, twitter, Google+ which will be closing.

    3. Writing an e-book is an awesome option both as money maker by selling it and helping customers to visit your website. Again it should written well and attract customers to your blog website

    4. Email marketing can give you good edge

    5. Youtube having its own search engine is a proven tool.  People like visuals.

All these five strategies could also niche website with blog. I like authors depiction of moving from blog to website although he never has contradicted to build the website with blogs.

I will add Instagram as a powerful social media as well.

I truly enjoyed reading the blog and it makes sense to start with a blog and switching to website. I like the author emphasizing the content quality and relevance for successful marketing.

    • Hey Anusaya,
